5 Things To Do To Improve Your Overall Health + Kind Of An Health Update *

It's only February and it's safe to say that my health this year has been shockingly bad, I've literally been unwell with different things since the beginning of December (yes, really!). It got to the point that I was questioning myself "what have I done wrong to deserve this?". But I'm kind of getting over the worst of what's been going on ~touch wood~. So because of this I'm currently trying to improve my overall health both physically and mentally and I thought I would write about some great ways to improve your health and hopefully give you some motivation if you're struggling with your physical health and mental health right now like myself.

Drink More Water
Water is basically a game changer and thankfully I do love drinking water. But I am trying to make more of an effort to drink more water in a day (even though it does make you wanna pee every half an hour). It really helps my skin to clear up if I'm having a bad breakout and then once my spots clear up, it gives me more confidence to go out wearing minimal makeup etc, so it's basically like a domino effect. Obviously, it's great for the health reasons such as how it helps to move nutrients through your body and so on and it's just really refreshing. Sometimes I prefer an iced water rather than a coffee to wake up my body in the morning. If you're not a fan of water then try popping in some fruit to change the taste a little.

Stop Smoking
Obviously if you're a smoker then deciding to quit smoking is a huge thing you can do to improve your overall health. I've never smoked because of the obvious health problems it can lead you to have and I don't want to smell like an ashtray all of the time (just keeping it real) and plus it's just so expensive. If you don't feel like you can quit smoking then you could consider vaping which lowers your health risks, is a lot cheaper and also is less addictive than smoking a cigarette.

Walk More
Since becoming self-employed and working from home, I've noticed that I'm not moving around as much as I should. So I'm making an effort to try and walk around more but with my current back problem I'm still struggling (literally walking around a few shops makes me feel anxious because I'm scared of making myself more unwell) but I feel like walking more not only helps your physical health it also improves your mental health and helps to boost your mood and your sleep patterns too.

Fix Your Posture
Most people don't have great posture - including myself and because I didn't notice it and correct it when I should have done, I've now discovered I have Anterior Pelvic Tilt and something called Hyper Lordosis which basically means that my lower spine and gone in and my bum sticks out (which I'll be honest, I thought was just because I'm overweight lol) so I'm now having to retrain the way how I sit, walk, stand and sleep. As well as trying to do yoga stretches and exercising daily, which sucks especially if I'm having a bad day with pain. So this is more of a warning to watch your posture and try not to slouch if you're someone who works at a computer all day.

Sleep Better
I find it hard to fall asleep but once I'm asleep, I could probably win awards for how long I can sleep for. But the things I've found help me to actually fall asleep is listening to calming music - I'm currently loving London Grammar, The XX and Ben Howard, also doing some yoga an hour before getting in bed, drinking flavoured tea (I love Clipper's Snore and Peace tea) and smothering myself in LUSH's Sleepy Body Lotion.

  2. I love going for a walk to clear my head, particularly with my Mum. We always talk through things & it's great that we can both get things off our chest x
