Taking Time Out and Having a Cosy Self-Care Evening *

*This is a collaborative post
I know people throw the word "self-care" around for basically anything and everything nowadays but I really do think I've nailed my perfect cosy self care evening and what I feel works best for me when I'm having a bit of a rubbish day/week and just want to take some time out and get away from everything and just have some "me time". It's no secret, this year has been a tough one for me - I'll even go as far as saying it's literally been the worst year ever. Yep. So I've been having a lot of self care evenings to try and make me feel better and take my mind off everything, even though it's hard when my body apparently hates me and wants me to be in pain pretty much 24/7 - yay

First of all I love either having a long bath preferably with a bath bomb, bath oil or something along those lines - just something to make my bath a bit more exciting. But If I don't feel like sitting in the bath for an hour or so then I'll just opt for a long shower instead. I love really focusing on my skin and hair when I'm in the bath or shower when I'm having a proper pamper sesh, so I'll go the extra mile and use a more luxurious facial cleanser and I'll pop on a hair mask after shampooing and conditioning my hair too. I've really been loving the Lee Stafford ChocoLocks Butter Cream hair mask because it smells gorgeous. I might even whack on some of my current fave music and light some nice scented candles around the bathroom too.

Obviously the radiator will be on when I'm in the bath or shower and for when I get out, so I don't freeze to death. Because we live kind of close to the moors it gets quite cold in the winter because our house is kind of in the dip below the moors and because our bathroom is located at the back of the house, it's one of the rooms which does feel the cold if it's not properly heated. If you are in need of some new radiators to keep your house lovely and cosy this winter or just want to upgrade then you can get white vertical radiators available at Trade Radiators

After my bath or shower I'll moisturise because my skin does get drier during the colder months, especially my legs. I've been loving the body yogurts from The Body Shop for months now, I've recently picked up the Almond Milk one and I love it. It's so soothing and smells really nice and comforting. It's a gel like consistency but it still does a great job at moisturising and you can also apply it when your skin is still a little damp and it dries down super quickly. After moisturising I'll pop on my pyjamas, I've recently picked up some new pyjamas from ASOS because pretty much all of mine were on their last legs and I just fancied treating myself, so I picked a few of their mix and match ones.

After I'm all cosy in my pyjamas, I like to carry on with my skincare so I usually pop a face mask on after my shower or bath as I find they work best after rather than before because the steam opens up your pores. I've actually been double face masking lately and using my fave Himalayan Charcoal Glow Mask from The Body Shop and then I'll use either their British Rose Mask or the Mediterranean Almond Milk With Oats Mask afterwards just to add some extra comfort and moisture back into my skin. I then follow that up with a toner, maybe sort sort of serum treatment depending on how my skin is acting and then my usual go-to moisturiser which is currently the Glossier Priming Moisturiser.

After I've done all of my skincare I then get in bed (usually accompanied by one of my cats), light some nice scented candles and then watch either some TV shows - I've been enjoying The Secret Life of the Zoo, Manifest and Clique over the past few weeks or I'll just pop a film on. At this time of the year I tend to opt for my fave Christmas films which are The Santa Clause movies, The Polar Express, The Grinch and Deck The Halls.

How do you take time out and practise "self care"?

  2. I am in desperate need of a self care evening and really need to make the time. I hope you are feeling better and getting somewhere with the Doctors.
My idea of self care is very similar to yours, a nice relaxation period normally a hot bath, skincare and then snuggly pj's and tv in bed. Hopefully I can find the time this weekend haha.
