Things That Remind Me Of The 90's/Early 00's *

-*This post is in collaboration with Walkers, all words and opinions are my own-
I'm sure if you were were born in the 90's (particularly the early 90's) then you'll have plenty of things which remind you of that time in your life and certain items/TV Shows/Movies will remind you of things that happened during that time too. Whether that's dancing and singing (badly) to the Spice Girls or Backstreet Boys, nearly ripping all of your hair out using the Babyliss Crazy Braid you got for Christmas or watching Toy Story over and over again until it drives your mum insane. In this post I'm talking about some of the many things which remind me of the 90's or early 00's and even slipping in a few funny and pretty embarrassing stories about things which have happened to me during those years.

First up I've obviously got to talk about the music between the 90's/early 00's, I loved A1 (well, I was obsessed with them tbh) but then in the early 00's I moved onto Busted and Mcfly, I mean who didn't love them? The song Five Colours In Her Hair still gets stuck in my head at the most random times even now. I also really liked the Spice Girls, 5ive, Steps, Christina Aguilera, B*Witched, NSYNC, Britney Spears, Aqua and the Backstreet Boys. I still listen to a lot of them now and I even have playlists of my fave 90's/00's songs on my Spotify because let's face it, putting on something from the 90's or early 00's will perk up your mood pretty much instantly if you're feeling a bit low, right? I even remember having a Spice Girls inspired sleepover at my granddad's with some of my cousins. However at that time they were getting into boybands such as Boyzone and Westlife and to be honest, I wasn't a big fan of Boyzone or Westlife. Sorry to any die-hard fans! Talking of the Spice Girls they have actually teamed up with Walkers again and it's been a whole 22 years since they first did an advert with them. This time they've reunited with Walkers on a new advert that's about finding Walkers Spice Girls Best Ever Fan which you can watch below!

I was also completely obsessed with collecting Polly Pockets and my parents have actually kept all of them in the loft in a big box. My mum has kept them for memory purposes and my dad being my dad says that "they might be worth something one day" lol. I also really liked Tamagotchi's even though they were a pain to look after and I'd literally get separation anxiety when I went to school and had to leave "my pet" at home. I remember having a meltdown in Toys R Us because I hadn't looked at my Tamagotchi all day and it had died. Also, who remembers Sky Dancers? I'm still not sure how they passed health and safety tests because I almost took an eye out many of times whilst playing with them and they really hurt if you accidentally caught your hand in their flight path too! Another one of my favourite toys was Furby. I had so many of them and they used to really creep my mum out because of their weird eyes. I personally think they were cute! I also remember crimping the hell out of my hair when I was old enough to go the school disco and then dancing the night away (well until 8pm) to songs such as the Macarena and Saturday Night - who remembers those absolute classics?!

I used to really like playing board games back in the day... oh god I've just realised I used the phrase "back in the day" wow, I'm sounding old. I used to circle the board games and various other things I wanted for my birthday or christmas in a colourful smelly gel pen (obvs) in the Argos catalogue as that was like the modern day wishlist. I remember wanting Mouse Trap for ages and then within about a day or two of having it my dad stepped on some of the parts which basically ruined the whole game. So I then stuck with games that didn't have loads of parts that could be broken so easily, such as Hungry Hungry Hippos, Guess Who?, Operation and Screwball Scramble.

Let's talk 90's/00's beauty considering beauty is one of my main focus points on my blog. I obviously have to mention Lip Smackers because of all the weird and wonderful flavours. I used to love going up town at the weekends with some pocket money and buying them from Savers. I also loved the Boots Glitter Babes Range - I remember feeling like a total makeup queen when I got the Lip Palette and I still remember the weird plastic but sweet smell they had and I always got the perfume set in the flower shaped bottles for either my birthday or christmas too. I must admit though, some of those scents were so nice! Also who remember's L'Oreal's No More Tears shampoo and conditioner? My mum always put it in my bag when I went swimming with school and that stuff burned my eyes so bad. it made me look like I had been crying which defeated the whole purpose!

Although it's not beauty I thought I'd mention Slime/Putty in a Pot too. Why? Because when I was about 6 or 7 whilst at Alton Towers I stupidly decided to buy some Putty in a Pot in one of the many gift shops and guess what? I somehow managed to get it in my hair - right in at the roots and I had to have a big chunk of my hair cut out because of it. I remember the gross smell lingering in my hair even after it had been cut out which is why I now avoid any sort of slime product like the plague, even if I'm buying gifts for my younger family members. It's quite funny looking back on it but it was very traumatising at the time!

For TV and movies I liked a lot of the classics including SpongeBob Squarepants, Art Attack (even though that Talking Head statue used to freak me out), Blues Clues, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Rugrats which was definitely a fave and Scooby Doo. I think my fave 90's films that I remember watching either in the 90's or the early 00's were Toy Story 1 & 2 which I still happily watch whenever they are on TV, Jurassic Park, Any of the Mary-Kate and Ashley movies, Edward Scissorhands and Clueless.

  5. OMG so much of this post resonated with me!! I'd forgotten about the Boots Glitter Babes stuff too! Music wise I was obsessed with Steps, to the point where my friend and I would put on concerts for our Mum's which looking back on was absolutely cringe. I had so many Polly Pockets I genuinely wish I'd kept some of them to look back on - Sky Dancers as well were rather interesting! I remember my Mum telling me off countless times when I was playing with them. I used to love birthdays and Christmas too because my Nan would give me a notepad and a pen along with the Argos catalogue and I'd happily sit there for ages! I always would rush home from school to watch CITV - I didn't get into Sabrina until later on but Art Attack was one of my favourites. Although like you the talking head really freaked me out! Great post, thank you for sharing and all this nostalgia has made me smile :)
