5 Ways To Keep Fit at Home *

-This post is a collaborative post with Flow State-

It is essential that we are looking after ourselves during the lockdown. For many of us, this means staying at home. But just because we can’t go to the gym or take part in our favourite classes, it doesn’t mean that we can’t keep fit and healthy. There are many different ways you can continue reaching your fitness goals, but you might need to get creative.

So, what options do you have to help you keep fit at home? In this post, we explore five different ways to look after your general health, which will help you to improve your mental health.

1. Exercising at home

Many people ask how you can exercise when gyms are closed. Well, it’s a lot easier than you think. You don’t need to have weights to be able to break a little sweat at home. Using your body weight and making sure you do a high repetition of your exercise will challenge your body.

If your goal is to lose weight or tone up, then using your body weight will help you achieve it. There are many great HIIT workouts that you can do using body weight to make you sweat and help you burn body fat.

If you’re not a fan of bodyweight exercises and prefer to use training equipment, then you have plenty of options. Depending on your budget and space available at home, you can invest in various pieces of exercising equipment to help you achieve your desired fitness goals, whether it’s a bench press, squat rack or resistance bands.

Instead of going for heavy weights, why not try getting something more portable and lightweight, like a resistance training set? A company like Flow State provides high-quality strength training equipment, which you can use for indoor & outdoor exercises, as well as carrying it with you anywhere.

2. Taking health supplements

Sometimes we all need a little help to keep us energised and feeling healthy throughout the day. You should make sure you're taking care of yourself by giving your body the vitamins, minerals and nutrients it needs. Whilst a “food-first” approach is advisable, it’s often difficult for many people to get all the essential nutrients they need solely from their daily diet.

You can take many different supplements to help you with this and what you need to look out for is those made with high quality ingredients and without fillers and binders. This will ensure you get the maximum benefit from any supplement you take.

As most of us now spend our time at home, it can really affect our mood at times. If our mood is impacted, we will simply not be as motivated or energised as we want to be. This is where natural supplements can help you, as there are some which regulate your mood by releasing feel-good hormones and can help with anxiety and stress.

3. Dancing to music

We all love dancing, so why not put your favourite song on and just have some fun in your living room. This is an excellent workout for the entire body, and I highly recommend trying to do this at least once a week. You will not only feel great after a good 30 minutes of pure dancing, but you also will become more fitter, as it imitates a well known Zumba class.

Finding the perfect dance routine can be tough! Luckily, YouTube is a great place to find beginner to more advanced routines that you can do at home. It's been proven time and time again to be an effective workout as it benefits your mind and body in so many ways.

4. Start doing yoga

If the traditional way of exercising is not for you, then why not try out yoga? There are many different types of yoga that you can do to help you feel more relaxed mentally and challenge all of your muscle groups. Yoga focuses on your core body strength and breathing techniques among so many other things like balance and coordination.

There are many different videos you can find on Youtube and you can also sign up for live yoga classes, which aren’t very expensive. Beginner level yoga is fairly simple and helps you begin to build your core body strength, find your balance and benefit your mood. Once you move onto the more advanced level, that’s where it starts to really focus on developing your core body strength as well as relaxing your mind. By the end of the session, you will be a lot more energised physically and mentally, and with time, you will become a lot more fitter.

5. Keep an eye on what you eat

Being constantly at home, we are tempted to fall into bad eating habits, which affect our fitness goals and health in general. Having an unhealthy diet can impact your day a lot. Your energy levels will be low, so you will constantly feel tired & demotivated. If you don’t have a balanced diet, it can affect your health in future. So, if you haven’t already, it is time to cut out all of that sugar and fatty food that you consume daily and start focusing on eating more wholesome types of foods.

Since the world is now more focused on becoming healthier, there are plenty of great healthy food options that do not require you to strip out all the carbs and flavours you love to eat. You can even get the ingredients & cooking instructions delivered to your door by services like Hello Fresh.

What you need to do now

All you need to do now is to start your journey towards better health, be more mindful of your decisions, and find the best ways that work for you to help you keep healthy at home. I hope our five tips have given you a good idea of how you take more steps forward towards achieving your health and fitness goals.
