Parent Budgeting Hacks 2021 *

-This post is in collaboration-

According to research, parents can spend around £2,000 on toys for their child between the ages of 4-13 and around £3,000 on school items between 4-18. But you don’t need to worry about that. By being savvy with your online shopping you can grab yourself some great freebies. Here’s a guide on how to make the most of free stuff and save those pennies!

Make use of free kids toys

Toys help children improve their motor skills and hand-eye coordination, which can help with a child’s physical development. It might seem basic since many of us probably don’t remember being so young, but push, pull, shake, turn and grab toys can have a significant positive impact.

Toys like Gelli Baff not only makes bathtime easy for parents but also provides some well-deserved entertainment for their child. Gelli Baff turns into goo once it’s been sprinkled into the water, so kids can watch the transformation. Whilst they get clean, they can squish and morph the goo into weird and wonderful shapes and once bathtime is over, you can add dissolving powder to the goo and wash it down the drain - a great opportunity for some sensory fun!

Make use of free books

Reading with and to your child in the early stages of their life helps them to understand the sounds of words and get a better grip of language. Books can spark your child’s imagination, encourage them to want to read more and even write their own stories. They can also teach children morals and the difference between real and make-believe.

Even in the later years, books can be a big part of your child’s life as they can delve into more difficult literature to improve their reading and writing skills - so they really are must-have items.

Something like Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a great place to start with young ones. It’s easy to read and completely free - a great addition to your child’s book collection. And to make sure reading isn’t a chore, there are free kid’s Little Dish reading packs that come with a bookmark, stickers and a £1 voucher off a Little Dish meal.

There are plenty of other reading books and activity packs available, so don’t miss out.

Make use of free baby bundles!

Research also suggests that baby gear for 0-3 year olds can cost parents around £5,000, so to drop that figure, use freebie websites and test out brands to get a feel for what you and your baby like. That’s bound to reduce the cost of the baby stuff!

From free Aveeno baby hair and body wash products and DryNites pyjama pants to entering competitions with a chance to win incredible baby bundles - you can’t go wrong.

Make use of free swimming lessons

Many parents consider swimming as an essential life skill as it boosts their child’s confidence, helps them to burn off plenty of energy and also make some friends in the process.

By learning how to swim, children can feel a sense of accomplishment and strive to further improve their aquatic skills.

Why not take advantage of a free trial for swimming lessons? It’s perfectly suited for children from birth to 10 years and helps to save money in the long run! Trying before you buy is always a good way to ensure you’re investing in something your child will enjoy and benefit from.

Make use of free arts and crafts

Get your child’s creative juices flowing! Arts and crafts is a great way to keep them busy, content and relaxed. Making something of their own will help with dexterity, identification of shapes and colours, and allows them to express themselves.

Don’t feel stuck for ideas, there are plenty of free activities that’ll keep your child entertained and your pockets full! Check out the free Smarties activity, boredom-buster activity and Dylan the Dancing Bear colouring book and get your freebies!

Make use of free kid’s days out

Days out are a great way to make fun memories with the kids and what better way to do it than for free? A great way to fill up your time off work, bank holidays or school holidays is to plan a day out in the sun or rain - it’s just good to be out!

Whether you like catching the latest film release, going on an adventure or visiting some exotic animals, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.
