What I've Been Reading, Watching and Listening To Lately

I’m finally posting another ‘What I’ve Been Reading, Watching and Listening To Lately’ in what feels like forever, I don’t even know why it’s taken me so long to sit down and write this as I usually really enjoy writing these. It’s been that long that I’ve actually forgotten some of the things I’ve watched so I’m mostly just going to be talking about more recent things I’ve enjoyed watching in that section. Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading this post and let me know if you have any TV shows, films and music recommendations in the comments.

So I haven’t actually read any books since my last one of these blog posts, I’ve started a few but they’ve just not gripped me enough for me to carry on reading them. I have however just started to read Colleen Hoover’s latest book Reminders of Him, I’m only a few chapters in so far so I can’t really say much about it but I’m definitely intrigued and want to carry on reading it which is a good sign. To be fair, I do like Colleen Hoover’s books in general, I’ve been reading her books wayyy before she went viral on TikTok. I’m just not forcing myself to sit down and read anymore, I just read whenever I fancy reading.

If you’re interested in Reminder’s of Him then the blurb reads ‘A troubled young mother yearns for a shot at redemption in this heartbreaking yet hopeful story from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover. After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter.’

Season 2 of Emily in Paris was pretty good as well, it’s quite cheesy and dramatic but it’s also one of those shows that makes you want to pack up your life and move to where it’s set because it just looks so stylish and dreamy. Emily is originally from Chicago, however, an opportunity comes up to work at a marketing firm in Paris called Savoir which is owned by the company she works for back home. They want an American point of view on the team and she also starts up an Instagram where she documents her new life in Paris which quickly gains interest and followers.

It was inevitable that Bridgerton would feature in this post, I thought Season 2 was actually better than Season 1 which is good because a lot of the time TV shows like Bridgerton kind of drop off after the first season. Season 2 is all about Anthony Bridgerton’s search for a wife and as he’s the Viscount of the Bridgerton family, it means there are plenty of women lining up to marry him. However he isn’t interested in falling in love, he just wants someone who ticks the boxes. He then meets the Sharma sisters who have travelled from India and have been sponsored by Lady Danbury for the season so that Edwina can find a husband. Edwina the younger sister is perfect for him on paper and Kate who intrigues Anthony but also infuriates him at the same thinks she is now too old for marriage and just wants to see a love match for her sister.

I finally sat down and watched the final few episodes of Good Girls literally just days ago and I’ve got to say, although I really like Good Girls and would still recommend it, the ending wasn’t great, it was rushed (because the show was cancelled) and I literally had to go onto Google after finishing it to try and work out what actually happened because it confused me a bit haha. But if you like a comedy-drama then I would still say to give it a watch, it’s on Netflix. It’s about three mothers Beth, her sister Annie and their friend Ruby who all have some pretty heavy stuff going on in each of their lives and they’re all strapped for cash… so they decide to rob a grocery store. However what they don’t realise is that they’re not just robbing the grocery store, they’re also robbing money from a gang which they soon find out shortly afterwards.

So recently I’ve just watched films I’ve seen a dozen times before that I just put on as background noise when I’m working or cleaning and tidying etc, however, I did watch The Weekend Away recently which is a fairly new Netflix original film and I thought it was pretty good. It’s about two friends who haven’t seen each other in a while and they meet up in Croatia for a weekend away. However, Kate who is recently divorced is a lot more outgoing than Beth who has recently just had a baby and just isn’t feeling great about herself or her relationship. After a night out, Beth wakes up in their luxury Airbnb with very little memory of the night before and soon realises that there is no sign of Kate anywhere. It soon becomes apparent that she is a missing person even though the police don’t seem all that bothered given Kate's party animal personality. So Beth tries to figure out what happened to her missing friend herself. It’s one of those films where you have to really sit and watch it as it has a lot of twists and turns and suspense.

I’m really liking Foals latest songs from their new album Life Is Yours that’s coming out in June. They’re all kind of sing alongy, dance-y toe tappers, I think my favourite so far is 2am though. I’ve literally been a fan of Foals since their first album way back in 2008 and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the new album.

I’m also loving Warpaint’s new songs Champion and Stevie, again I’ve been a fan of them for ages but they haven’t released an album since 2016 so I’m really looking forward to their new album Radiate Like This that’s coming out in May. If you’re into catchy, chill out kind of music then I’d highly recommend them.

Another song that I've been loving is Honeybrains by Royal Blood which is their latest single as I'm writing this. I’ve also rediscovered White Lies as they popped up randomly on my playlist on Spotify recently and I've been listening to their latest album As I Try Not To Fall Apart quite a lot since. I really like their song Am I Really Going To Die? in particular. It’s a bit of a depressing song title, I know, but it’s actually quite catchy.

  1. I've not managed much reading either recently. I didnt realise good girls got cancelled. I started watching it ages ago, but it kind of fizzled out for me. I couldn't actually tell you where I got up to. Eeek!
