Another Natural and Cruelty-Free Deodorant Review... | My Thoughts On GoBo's AHA Deodorant

I’ve talked about trying to find a natural, eco-friendly and cruelty-free deodorant on my blog before and I’m back again with another deodorant review. This time it’s from vegan and cruelty-free brand GoBo.

The ones I’ve tried in the past just haven’t really worked for me. They’ve either disagreed with my skin and made me feel itchy after hours of wear which obviously isn’t great or they don’t work well in terms of keeping me feeling fresh all day or I’ve found the application process quite awkward because you have to wait for the balm to warm up and melt a little before applying it with your fingers.

GoBo’s AHA deodorant which is already proving popular in the USA is fragranced with natural floral waters and is aluminium-free, paraben-free, alcohol-free, essential oil-free and made in the UK. They also claim that it can help to prevent ingrown hairs and painful blocked sweat glands and helps to fade dark pigmentation which is caused by shaving.

Their AHA Deodorant utilises Glycolic Acid to kill any bacteria and gently exfoliates the top layer of your skin to remove any dead skin cells, both of which contribute to B.O. It also contains Arrowroot which absorbs moisture and helps to keep the skin dry, Guar Gum which is a natural food-grade thickener and prebiotic, Vegetable Glycerine which keeps the skin hydrated and it also contains Aqua, Sodium Bicarbonate and Sorbic Acid too.

There are four scent options to choose from Original (Unscented), Orange Blossom, Jasmin and Rose and they are priced at £9.99 each and available from Amazon.

I chose the Rose* option to try and it’s a very subtle rose scent. However, I think the scent being subtle is a good thing because it means the smell of the deodorant isn’t going to overpower any perfume or body spray you may have also applied.

The application is a doddle because it’s just a simple rollerball function which means it’s super easy to pop on in the morning. The only downside about this deodorant is the fact that it feels a little sticky when you’ve applied it, however after 10 minutes or so, it dries down and stops feeling sticky. They also claim that it protects and can keep you feeling fresh between 24-48 hours but I've found that it doesn't last that long for me personally, I think it lasts about 8-12 hours before feeling like I need to put more on and I'm not a particularly sweaty person. However, I have noticed that I haven't been getting as many ingrown hairs whilst using this deodorant and I've been prone to ingrown hairs since I first started shaving, no matter what product or razor I use, so I definitely think the AHA exfoliating concept in the deodorant helps.

Overall, I do like this deodorant, it's a shame that it feels sticky when you first apply it but it does settle down fairly quickly. I also don't really mind that it doesn't keep me feeling fresh for the 24-48 hours that they claim because I would typically apply deodorant once or twice a day anyway. I also like that the scent isn't overpowering but still nice. I'll probably pick up the Orange Blossom offering next time just to see what it's like.
